Load before ten, gone before the Stourton queues
Getting onto the network from here is short: the A61 down to Junction 7 of the M621, or across to the M1. The catch is the freight traffic around Stourton, which backs those approaches up badly at peak. A van that is loaded and away by half eight is in front of all of it. One still carrying boxes at ten has the pedestrian zone and the queues to deal with at the same time, on a day that already has several hundred miles in it.
The properties split into two kinds. Around Marsh Street and Butcher Lane the Victorian and ex-colliery terraces have no rear access and permanent kerbside parking, so it is a front-door job with the van as close as we can get it. Out at Oulton and Woodlesford the newer estates have block-paved closes, small turning heads and bollarded footpath links a long wheelbase van cannot pass, so we walk the route before reversing anything in.
What Rothwell long distance & nationwide usually involves
- Town-centre collections are timed for before ten or after four, when Commercial Street is open to vehicles
- The free Marsh Street car park is the nearest sensible place to hold the van for a central job
- New-build closes at Oulton and Woodlesford have narrow turning heads, so the van is positioned once and the rest is carried
- Terraces off Butcher Lane have no rear access, so beds and wardrobes come down the stairs and out of the front
- A three-bed new-build normally goes in one load; add a garage and a loft's worth and it does not, and we say so before the date is fixed

What it costs
The quote is built from the mileage, how much is going on the van and whether the run needs an overnight stop, agreed before the day. There's no travel surcharge for coming to Rothwell from Bradford, and you get the price before we set off, not after. See how we quote for the full breakdown.
Frequently asked questions: long distance & nationwide in Rothwell
Can you park on Commercial Street to load?
Only before ten in the morning or after four in the afternoon, when the zone is open to vehicles. Outside those hours it is buses only. For a long distance job that suits us anyway, because we want the van loaded and moving early, so we book the collection for first thing.
Why does the start time matter so much here?
Because Junction 7 of the M621 and the M1 approaches jam with Stourton freight traffic at peak. Half an hour earlier off your drive can be an hour saved before you reach Sheffield, and on a run to the south coast that is the difference between unloading in daylight and unloading in the dark.
Will everything from an Oulton new-build fit in one van?
A three-bedroom house of furniture and boxes normally does. What tips it over is the garage, the loft and the garden. Send photos and a list and we will tell you before booking, because a part-load left behind in Rothwell is no use to you in Devon.
