House Removals in Rothwell

Two different kinds of house move happen in Rothwell, and they go wrong in opposite ways. The red-brick colliery terraces off Marsh Street and Butcher Lane have no rear access and permanent kerbside parking. The new estates at Oulton and Woodlesford have driveways, but the closes are tight and the turning heads are small.

Colliery terraces and new-build closes

Pit-town terraces were built in long unbroken runs with the front door on the street. A Victorian brick terrace off Marsh Street will have a narrow hall, a straight steep staircase and a landing with no room to swing a bed frame, and the kerb outside is occupied around the clock. The van gets as close as it can and the rest is trolley work, which is fine, provided we know about it before the day rather than finding out on it.

The modern estates are a different conversation. Block-paved closes off Oulton Lane and De Lacies Road have narrow turning heads, and the footpath links between them are bollarded, so a long-wheelbase van that drives in the wrong way has to reverse out past parked cars. We check the layout first and plan the approach and the exit, then reverse in on arrival while the van is empty and easy to place.

What Rothwell house removals usually involves

  • Commercial Street is semi-pedestrianised with a loading window before 10am and after 4pm, so centre jobs are timed around it
  • The free Marsh Street car park is the main town-centre option and the usual place to hold the van between trips
  • Terraced streets off Marsh Street and Butcher Lane are kerbside-parked at all hours, so we expect a carry rather than a doorstep load
  • New-build closes at Oulton and Woodlesford have small turning heads and bollarded footpath links, so we plan the way in and the way out before arriving
  • The A61 into Junction 7 of the M621 and the M1 at Junction 44 back up with Stourton freight traffic at peak, so Leeds-side runs start early

Common Rothwell runs

  • Rothwell → Bradfordfifteen miles on the M621, M62 and M606, 30 to 45 minutes outside peak
  • A Marsh Street terrace → an Oulton new-buildthe common local step up, one load plus a run for the garage
  • Rothwell → Leeds or Wakefieldthe two commuter directions, both short enough for two trips in a day

What it costs

Rothwell moves are priced on time and load, and what moves that time is access: the carry on a terrace, or the turning space on a new estate. There's no travel surcharge for coming to Rothwell from Bradford, and you get the price before we set off, not after. See how we quote for the full breakdown.

Frequently asked questions: house removals in Rothwell

Can you load on Commercial Street?

Only inside the windows. It is semi-pedestrianised, with loading permitted before 10am and after 4pm and buses only in between. For a house or flat on that stretch we either start first thing or run the job late afternoon, and we will tell you which when we take the booking.

Will the van fit down our close in Oulton?

Usually, but the turning head is the question, not the entrance. The block-paved closes here are built for cars and the footpath links are bollarded. Send the postcode and we will look at the layout beforehand, then reverse in on arrival rather than discover the problem with a full load on board.

Can you move me from Rothwell to Bradford in a day?

Yes. It is about fifteen miles on the M621 and M62, thirty to forty-five minutes outside peak, so a two-bed usually goes in one trip and a three-bed in two with time to spare. We aim to be loading by eight to stay ahead of the Stourton freight traffic.
