House Removals in Castleford

Castleford's housing came out of the collieries and the potteries: dense terraces at Lock Lane, Half Acres and Hightown, then the big Airedale and Cutsyke estates built for pit families. Those are on-street-only streets with a single front door, which is a very different day's work from the new-build at Glasshoughton.

Terraces, turning heads and the Glasshoughton cul-de-sac

Glasshoughton is the surprise. It looks like the easy end, modern houses on reclaimed colliery and coking-plant land, but the estates are laid out as narrow cul-de-sacs with small turning heads and cars down both sides, and reversing a 3.4-metre load into one of those is the hardest bit of driving in town. We get there early, before the second cars come home, or we work in from the mouth of the close with the trolley.

In the middle of town, Carlton Street is pedestrianised for the full length of the market, which trades six days a week, so there is no vehicle access to those frontages while it is on. Approaches funnel over the bridges where the Calder joins the Aire and jam easily. And if someone suggests the Carlton Lanes car park, the height barrier decides it, so we use a surface car park instead rather than find out the hard way.

What Castleford house removals usually involves

  • Terraced streets at Lock Lane, Half Acres and Hightown are on-street only and full, so the van takes the closest gap and the rest is carried
  • Council pay and display at Carlton Street and Bridge Street works as a staging point, while the Carlton Lanes car park has a height barrier we don't rely on with a high-roof van
  • Saturday moves through Glasshoughton need an early or late slot, because the A656 from M62 junction 32 clogs with Junction 32 and Xscape traffic
  • Glasshoughton and the retail sites have large free surface parking, which is useful for waiting between two loads on a longer job
  • If a new sofa or bed is being delivered to the new address, we can carry the old one out and take it away on the same visit; we don't take on whole-house clearances

Where in Castleford we work

  • Lock Lanelate-Victorian terraces with a single front door and no off-street parking
  • Half Acres and Hightowndense terraced streets where the van parks up the road and the carry is the job
  • Airedale and Cutsykelarge interwar and post-war estates, wider streets and usually somewhere to stand
  • Glasshoughtonnew-build closes with tight turning heads, the hardest reversing in Castleford
  • Carlton Streetpedestrianised for a market that trades six days a week, so no vehicle access to those frontages
  • WhitwoodAire-side estates close to M62 junction 31, straightforward drive-up loading

If your street isn't listed it's almost certainly still covered, Castleford and the surrounding WF10 postcodes are all inside our normal working area.

Common Castleford runs

  • Bradford → Castlefordtwenty-two miles, M606 onto the M62 eastbound and off at junction 32, motorway nearly all the way
  • Lock Lane or Airedale → Glasshoughtonthe local step onto the new-build, a short distance and two very different loading ends
  • Castleford → Leeds or Wakefieldregular runs for people moving on price in one direction or the other

What it costs

The Castleford price comes down to the load and the access at each end, because a terrace on Lock Lane and a close in Glasshoughton both take longer than the mileage suggests. There's no travel surcharge for coming to Castleford from Bradford, and you get the price before we set off, not after. See how we quote for the full breakdown.

Frequently asked questions: house removals in Castleford

Castleford is twenty-two miles from Bradford. Is there a travel charge?

No. It sits inside our covered area and the run is almost entirely motorway, M606 onto the M62 and off at junction 32, so it takes forty to fifty-five minutes. The price is worked out on the load and the time the job takes, the same as a move across Bradford.

Can you get the van onto Carlton Street?

Not while the market is trading, and it trades six days a week. Carlton Street is pedestrianised for the length of the market, so for an address on that stretch we load from the nearest vehicle access and carry, using the Carlton Street or Bridge Street pay and display if we need to wait.

Will the van fit into a Glasshoughton cul-de-sac?

Usually, if we come at the right time. The closes are narrow with small turning heads and cars on both sides, so a morning slot before everyone is home makes the difference. If it is genuinely too tight we park at the mouth of the close and trolley the load in.
