Carlton: what to know before moving day
Carlton is known for growing rhubarb, and the farms around it still employ many people, including a recent wave of workers from Eastern Europe. The Rhubarb Triangle Farm Shop is close by. The name goes back to Carlentone in the Domesday Book, from Old Norse and Old English words for an estate owned by commoners.
The old core is Main Street, Town Street, Chapel Street and Queen Street, around Carlton Village Green and the Lower Village Green. How the van gets to Carlton
From Bradford the M62 east to junction 29, then the A61 north towards Leeds, is the usual route. The A654 comes through Carlton as Carlton Lane and Leadwell Lane, meeting the A61 at Robin Hood, and Ouzlewell Green leads towards Lofthouse.

Why does a Leeds village like Carlton have a Wakefield postcode?
It is a quirk of the postal map. Carlton was in Rothwell Urban District until 1974 and is now in the Rothwell ward of Leeds City Council, but it keeps a WF3 Wakefield postal address, so do not be surprised when a satnav or form says Wakefield.
