Horsforth: what to know before moving day

Town Street has the greatest concentration of pubs and bars, with the library near its northern end, and The Green and the village museum are a short way to the south-west. Streets such as Kerry Street, New Street and Featherbank Lane lie around them. Horsforth Hall Park, with its cricket ground and Japanese garden, lies to the west, and Hunger Hills beyond it. Station Road and New Road Side are the other busy spots.

Horsforth grew from a farming village into a dormitory suburb of Leeds in the 19th century and was once the most populous village in England. Leeds Trinity University's residential campus is off Brownberrie Lane on the northern side. Parts of the town, such as Woodside and Cragg Hill, keep their own names, and Low Fold sits near the Broadway stretch of the ring road.

How the van gets to Horsforth

From Bradford the van can take the A658 through Apperley Bridge and Rawdon and then the A65 south-east into Horsforth, or come round the Leeds outer ring road, the A6120, which runs through the town as Broadway. Both take roughly 15 to 30 minutes. The A65 passes through as New Road Side on its way to Kirkstall and Leeds.

Is Horsforth station actually in Horsforth?

Just outside it. The station on the Harrogate line, reached from Station Road, sits beyond the parish boundary on the Cookridge side of Moseley Beck and also serves Cookridge and Tinshill. Kirkstall Forge, on the Leeds to Bradford line, is near the southern boundary.

Is Horsforth a town or a village?

Both names are used. It was historically a village, became a civil parish again in 1999, and the parish council then voted to call itself a town council. Council tax and bins still go through Leeds City Council.
