Flockton: what to know before moving day
Flockton grew as a coal-mining village, and it takes in the once separate Over Flockton, Nether Flockton and Flockton Green. The housing is mixed: Parkside is an area of council housing, while other developments are private and stone-built, and a terrace of four early 19th-century stone houses at 2 to 8 Haigh Lane is listed. Flockton Moor, to the west, is a rural area of mainly farmhouses.
St James the Great, a Gothic Revival church of 1867 to 1869 by W. H. Crossland, stands on Barnsley Road next to Flockton C of E First School, and Zion United Reformed Church dates from 1802. The Sun is one of its pubs, and New Hall Prison is in New Hall Wood about 0.6 miles east. The M1 is close, and the A637 carries a lot of traffic, so for a house fronting Barnsley Road, tell us whether there is a drive or a side street where the van can stop.
How the van gets to Flockton
From Huddersfield the A642 runs through Waterloo and Lepton to the Grange Moor roundabout, and the A637 Barnsley Road goes east from there into Flockton. Haigh Lane and Pinfold Lane leave Barnsley Road in the village, and Clough Road runs south from Pinfold Lane to Emley.

At the eastern end of the village, where the A637 meets the road from Overton. The George and Dragon there, dating from 1485, is now The Arc. Because Over and Nether Flockton were once separate too, give the street name rather than the old part's name when you book.
