Grange Moor: what to know before moving day
The village lies just north of the junction where the A642, A637 and B6118 meet. Shuttle Eye Colliery stood near that crossroads, and its site is now warehousing, with business units on Jubilee Business Park and a street called Shuttle Eye Way. St Bartholomew's Church, the Blacksmiths Arms and Grange Moor Primary School are in the village, and Grange Moor Brass Band, formed in 1854, has had a band room here since 1937.
Late in the Second World War a V-1 flying bomb hit Dumb Steeple Farm; the site was later redeveloped as Greenfield Crescent and the housing around it. The Dumb Steeple itself, a 23-foot stone tower rebuilt in 1766 and Grade II listed, still stands. Other streets include Liley Lane, Denby Lane, Back Lane, Steeple Avenue and Whitley Way. On a main-road address, say which road the house faces so the van can plan where to stop.
How the van gets to Grange Moor
All the main roads meet at the Grange Moor roundabout: the A642 Wakefield Road from Huddersfield by way of Waterloo and Lepton, the A637 Barnsley Road towards Flockton, and the B6118 Liley Lane. Briestfield Road runs north out of the village to Briestfield and Thornhill Lees.
