Lepton: what to know before moving day
Lepton was a township of the old parish of Kirkheaton, then an urban district from 1894 until it was merged into Kirkburton in 1938. Its older houses are stone, and some began as weavers' houses: 18 Green Balk Lane and 63 Rowley Lane are listed former weaver's houses, 6 and 8 Rowley Hill date from the late 18th century, and Crow Trees and the barn at Thorne's Farm go back to the 17th century. St John's Church was built in 1866 to 1868, and the base of a medieval wayside cross, moved from Green Balk Lane, stands in its churchyard.
Away from the main road the streets include Woodlands Road, Grosvenor Avenue, Ings Way and Hermitage Park. The village has a Spar and a Morrisons Daily, Lepton Surgery, a pharmacy, the Sun, Lepton CofE Primary Academy and Rowley Lane school, and Lepton Highlanders run the local football and cricket teams. Little Lepton lies along Rowley Lane to the east.
How the van gets to Lepton
The A642 Wakefield Road is the main road, running from Waterloo on the Huddersfield side through the village and on to Grange Moor. Rowley Lane, the B6433, joins it in Lepton, and Highgate Lane heads north towards Kirkheaton. A listed cast-iron milepost stands on the A642 in front of the football ground.
The drive from Bradford is roughly 30 to 40 minutes. That is an estimate from route data, not a timed run, and traffic changes it.

It depends which boundary you mean. Its civil parish is Kirkburton, so the parish council is Kirkburton's, but its Kirklees ward is Almondbury and its postcodes are HD8. Either way, council tax and bins are handled by Kirklees Council.
