Dalton: what to know before moving day
Dalton is an old place: it is in the Domesday Book, was a township of the parish of Kirkheaton, became a civil parish of its own in 1866 and was merged into Huddersfield in 1924. The oldest homes are listed stone groups: Bankside, a set of 17th-century cottages with mullioned windows and a barn, the row at 6 to 10 Cold Royd Lane from the 18th century, Dalton Lodge with its fanlit doorway, and the pairs of stone houses at Jagger Hill on Jagger Lane.
Other streets include Long Lane, Dalton Green Lane, Sutton Avenue and First and Second Avenue, with a few engineering firms on the north-west side. Edgerton and Dalton Cricket Club plays at the end of Dalton Fold Road, and Moldgreen's amateur rugby league club uses the fields off Ridgeway. Kirkwood, the hospice for Kirklees, is nearby. On an older lane such as Cold Royd Lane, part of which is a bridleway, say how close to the door the van can get.
How the van gets to Dalton
Long Lane is the main road through Dalton, running from Grove Place on the Moldgreen side out towards Kirkheaton. Dalton Bank Road heads north from Nettleton Road to the B6118 Colne Bridge Road, which meets the A62 Leeds Road at Bradley, so the van can come in from the Leeds Road side without crossing the town centre.
