Briestfield: what to know before moving day
Briestfield was part of the township of Whitley Lower in the old parish of Thornhill, which was absorbed into Thornhill in 1896 and into the borough of Dewsbury in 1910. Its church ties are still with Whitley: the united benefice of Thornhill and Whitley includes Briestfield. The Briestfield Wesleyan Methodist chapel of 1825 has been converted into a house, and before Emley had its own chapels, dissenters from there came to a meeting house in Briestfield.
Many addresses are farms: Back Lane Farm, Carr Farm, Horstead Farm, Poplar Farm, Mithroyd Green Farm and New Farm, with a listed 17th-century timber-framed barn, later cased in stone, behind Orchard Farm House. How the van gets to Briestfield
Briestfield Road is the way through. It leaves the B6118 Liley Lane in Grange Moor, which sits on the A642 from Huddersfield, and runs north through the hamlet to Fox Royd and Thornhill Lees on the Dewsbury side. Back Lane, Carr Lane and Pearson's Lane branch off it.

Historically it went into the borough of Dewsbury in 1910, as part of Thornhill, and it lies south of the town. Today it is simply part of Kirklees, in the Kirkburton ward, outside any parish, with WF12 postcodes from the Wakefield postcode area.
