Eccup: what to know before moving day
Eccup is a hamlet set among fields rather than a suburb. Along Eccup Lane and the lanes off it are working and former farms such as Manor Pleasant Farm and Bank House Farm, with Burden Head Farm just north of the village, a name first recorded in the Domesday Book. The New Inn stands at the north end. If your address is down a farm track, tell us where the van can turn and whether the track is surfaced.
Eccup Reservoir, owned by Yorkshire Water, is the largest area of open water in West Yorkshire at 91 hectares, first built in 1843 and enlarged in 1897. The reservoir and its woodland are Sites of Special Scientific Interest, and a circular walk of about five miles goes round it. Television viewers may know the area from Emmerdale, which has used the New Inn and nearby Brookland Farm for outdoor scenes.
How the van gets to Eccup
Eccup Lane is the road through the village. To the south-west it meets King Lane and Arthington Road on the Alwoodley side; heading north it passes the turn for Village Road and then reaches Bedlam Lane. Eccup Moor Road and Black Hill Lane also branch off Eccup Lane. These are country lanes, so give the farm or house name as well as the postcode.
The drive from Bradford is roughly 25 to 40 minutes. That is an estimate from route data, not a timed run, and traffic changes it.

Eccup falls across two postcode districts, LS16 and LS17, so homes in the same small area can carry different outcodes. It is all one place in Alwoodley parish and Alwoodley ward of Leeds City Council; just give us the postcode on your own address.
Is Eccup still a parish of its own?
Only briefly. Eccup became a civil parish in 1926, taken from Adel cum Eccup, and was merged into Leeds in 1928. Today it is in the parish of Alwoodley.
