East Carlton: what to know before moving day
This is a very small place: the whole parish had 169 residents in 2001. The houses sit along Carlton Lane, with Carlton Green, Carlton Manor and The Lodge among the named groups, and Carlton Moor rises to the north. Two of the parish's three listed buildings are here. Carlton Hall is a 17th-century sandstone hall-house with mullioned windows, and the former St Bartholomew's Mission Church was built in 1818 as a school, in gritstone with sash windows. Old houses like these can have tight doorways, so measure before moving anything large.
The parish runs down to the airport. The Leeds Bradford Airport Industrial Estate, where the wartime Avro factory stood, is in its southern part on the east side of the A658. On the map, a Roman road line, an old sandstone quarry and the ruins of a Second World War anti-aircraft gun site lie in the fields close to the village.
How the van gets to East Carlton
Carlton Lane is the road through East Carlton. At one end it joins Cemetery Road, which leads south into the top of Yeadon's High Street; at the other it meets Otley Old Road, which runs to the A658 Harrogate Road beside the airport. From Bradford either way works: up through Yeadon, or along the A658.
