Wheatley Lane: what to know before moving day
Housing is a mix: small stone-built cottages, a few Victorian terraces and some 1950s council houses, with the fields either side of the road built on for housing since the 1960s. On the map the side streets include Harpers Lane, Greenbank Drive, Pollard Row and Spencers Fold, and 304 Wheatley Lane Road is a listed three-storey stone house. The listed Methodist church of 1867 has its primary school beside it. On the eastern edge is one of the few Inghamite chapels left, with a large graveyard where Thomas Whitham, awarded the Victoria Cross in 1917, is buried. The White Swan and the Harpers Inn are pubs in the village, and a shop, Thorougoods, holds the Fence post office.
How the van gets to Wheatley Lane
The A6068, called the New Road or the Padiham bypass locally, runs along the south of the village, and Wheatley Lane Road and Noggarth Road come off it. From Bradford the van reaches Colne on the A6068 from Keighley, takes the M65 to junction 13 at Nelson, and picks up the A6068 Barrowford Road heading west towards Padiham.
The drive from Bradford is roughly 50 to 60 minutes. That is an estimate from route data, not a timed run, and traffic changes it.

What is the Inghamite chapel on the edge of Wheatley Lane?
It is one of the few Inghamite chapels still standing, and its large graveyard is the burial place of Victoria Cross holder Thomas Whitham. It is a clear landmark at the eastern end of the village if you are giving directions.
