Brierfield: what to know before moving day

The centre is a grid of 20 mph residential streets such as Albert Street, Stanley Street, Hope Street, Walter Street and Commercial Street, off the A682, which runs through the town as Colne Road, Burnley Road and Manchester Road. In an older house, measure the front door and the stairs before booking a large sofa or wardrobe, and send the figures with a photo.

The town grew around its cotton mills. Brierfield Mills, the Tunstill family's Italianate mill of 1868 on the canal, later made surgical bandages for Smith & Nephew and stopped weaving in 2006; Pendle Council bought it in 2012 for regeneration. The listed town hall began as a house and became the town hall in 1901. Other landmarks are the 1861 Methodist church, the war memorial with its bronze lion, St Luke the Evangelist's church, Jamia Mosque Sultania of 2013 and Marsden Heights Community College. Quaker Bridge crosses Pendle Water at the foot of the town.

How the van gets to Brierfield

Junction 12 of the M65 is the Brierfield Interchange, where the A682 and the B6248 Clitheroe Road meet the motorway. From Bradford the van comes over to Colne on the A6068 through Keighley or the A56 through Skipton, then west along the M65 to junction 12. Brierfield station, on the East Lancashire Line, has hourly trains towards Colne and Preston.

The drive from Bradford is roughly 50 to 60 minutes. That is an estimate from route data, not a timed run, and traffic changes it.

Why is Brierfield in the Burnley constituency but not under Burnley Council?

Council services come from Pendle: Brierfield has been in the Borough of Pendle since 1974 and has had its own town parish since 1992, split between the Brierfield East & Clover Hill and Brierfield West & Reedley wards. For Parliament, though, it has been in the Burnley constituency since 2024.
