Higham: what to know before moving day
The centre of Higham is a conservation area of stone buildings, mostly 19th century, with some older, and several farmhouses and barns there have been turned into homes. Outside it the housing is later, including modern estates. Clover Croft Mill, latterly a furniture factory, was demolished by 2006 for housing, and the map now shows the Clover Croft estate on the site. Other residential streets include Nutter Crescent, Moore Drive, Kiln Hill, Halmote Avenue and West Close Avenue, all 20 mph.
The Four Alls Inn, a listed stone pub with a datestone, St John the Evangelist's Church of 1874, Higham St John's Church of England Primary School and the village hall of 1837 are all in the village. The Spout in the centre gives a constant supply of spring water, and 17th-century Higham Hall once hosted the court of the Forest of Pendle. North of Stump Hall Road the parish is inside the Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
How the van gets to Higham
The A6068 Barrowford Road passes the village at 50 mph, and Sabden Road, Higham Hall Road and Leet Road lead in from it. From Bradford the van reaches Colne via Keighley on the A6068 or via Skipton on the A56, then runs west past Nelson to Higham.
The drive from Bradford is roughly 50 to 65 minutes. That is an estimate from route data, not a timed run, and traffic changes it.

Where is West Close, in the parish name?
It is part of the parish and is still shown on the map as a residential area, with West Close Avenue running through it. In the Pendle witch trials of 1612 it was named as the home of Anne Whittle, known as Chattox.
