The name comes from Ighten Hill, about 146 metres high. The manor house of the Honour of Clitheroe stood on its brow, a quarter of a mile east of Gawthorpe Hall: Edward II stayed there in 1323, and horses were bred there for a royal stud. Gawthorpe Hall itself is an Elizabethan house on the River Calder, Grade I listed and run by the National Trust with Lancashire County Council. Ightenhill Park Lane passes Hollins Farm and Park Lane Nurseries.
How the van gets to Ightenhill
From Bradford the van reaches Burnley along the M65 from Colne and leaves at junction 10. From there the A671 Padiham Road heads west, and Ightenhill Park Lane leaves it for the estates, meeting Ighten Road, Helvellyn Drive and Lakeland Way.
