Stoneyholme: what to know before moving day
The streets were built between 1860 and 1914 for Burnley's growing workforce: Kent Street, Brougham Street, Gordon Street, Merton Street, Castle Street, Burleigh Street, Belford Street, Cromwell Street and their neighbours, mostly within a 20 mph zone. In terraces of that age, send a photo of the front door and stairs before booking a large sofa or a tall wardrobe. The old Ashley Street Dye Works, opened in 1909, is now workshop units, and two of the district's gas holders survive.
Princess Way, the B6434, runs along the district with Burnley College, an Asda superstore and retail units on it, and the River Calder passes close by. Stoneyholme Community Primary School is on Oswald Street. Burnley Football Club played its first matches in 1882 at Calder Vale, believed to have been a waterlogged riverside ground in Stoneyholme, before moving to Turf Moor in 1883.
How the van gets to Stoneyholme
Bradford traffic joins the M65 where it ends at Colne and follows it west. Junction 11, the Whittlefield Interchange, puts it onto Princess Way (B6434), which meets Canning Street, Brougham Street, Ashley Street and March Street on the way into the terraces.
