Haggate: what to know before moving day
The Hare and Hounds, by the crossroads, dates from the late 16th century and was among the first buildings in the village; its name comes from the hare and fox hunting once allowed here. Haggate Baptist Church has its chapelyard beside the junction, and Haggate School, built in 1882 on the old cricket field, later became the village primary school. Most of the buildings are stone.
Haggate runs straight into Harle Syke down Burnley Road, and Lane Bottom, another Briercliffe hamlet, is about 400 metres away. Beyond the village, Extwistle Hall, a Grade II* listed Tudor house now in ruins, stands on Extwistle Moor between Haggate and Worsthorne. Burnley Borough Council is the council for Haggate.
How the van gets to Haggate
Four roads meet at Haggate: Halifax Road, Todmorden Road, Nelson Road and Burnley Road. Burnley Road goes down through Harle Syke to Briercliffe Road and on into Burnley, while Nelson Road heads for Nelson.
