Scotton: what to know before moving day
Scotton's history is older than it looks from the road. Scotton Old Hall, Grade II*, incorporates 15th-century timber framing, and The Old Manor House, once linked with the Percy family, is a timber framed house later cased in stone. An 1881 local history records Guy Fawkes living in the village as a teenager, and the pub is the Guy Fawkes Arms on Main Street. A Quaker burial ground with listed headstones survives too.
For a move, Main Street is the spine, with St Thomas' Church and the Methodist church on it and the village hall on New Road. Newer homes sit in closes such as Scotton Drive, Scotton Grove, Percy Court, Manor Drive, Herdsmans Court and Parkside Gardens. There is no shop in the village.
How the van gets to Scotton
The B6165 Ripley Road, a 60 mph road, passes close to the village, and Low Moor Lane and Havikil Lane lead in. Drivers sometimes use Scotton as a shortcut between the A6055 and the B6165, so a busier moment on Main Street is possible. From Knaresborough the van leaves on the B6165 and turns off for the village.
The drive from Bradford is roughly 45 to 60 minutes. That is an estimate from route data, not a timed run, and traffic changes it.
