Ossett Spa: what to know before moving day
A local stonemason, inspired by Harrogate and Cheltenham, founded the spa, and in the early 19th century its waters drew people looking for relief from some skin diseases. A plan in the 1870s to turn Ossett into a second Harrogate failed and the spa closed, but the name stuck to this side of town, and OpenStreetMap still marks ruins of the spa near Spa Street.
It is a small area where houses, a pub and a few works sit together. The Fleece is beside Spa Street, Spring Field Mill and a woodworking works are among the homes, and farmland at Light Side Close and Drain Close separates the streets from Horbury. Residential roads include St John's Avenue, Parkfield Drive, Westwood Road, Roundwood Road, Goring Park Avenue and Spa Croft Road, with Haggs Hill to the north and Spring End Road to the east.
How the van gets to Ossett Spa
The M1 runs just east of Ossett Spa, and junction 40, on the A638, is the way off it. From Bradford, the M606 and the M62 east to Lofthouse connect with the M1 south. From junction 40 the van comes into Ossett and down to Spa Street by Manor Road or Teall Street; Spring End Road and Haggs Hill Road link the area with the east side of the town.
The drive from Bradford is roughly 30 to 45 minutes. That is an estimate from route data, not a timed run, and traffic changes it.
