Nether Yeadon: what to know before moving day
Yeadon Gill runs through the area, and in the medieval period a small group of cottages stood along it here; the gill also powered a corn mill. The lanes still follow that older pattern: Warm Lane, Gill Lane and Highfold, with High Fold Farm, Warm Lane Farm and Greenside Farm among the houses. The old Nether Yeadon School stood near the junction of Apperley Lane and Warm Lane. It was set up in 1703 by Quakers and Baptists on land from the Layton family, rebuilt in 1821 and sold in 1905, and it is now a house called Layton Cottage. How the van gets to Nether Yeadon

Nether means lower. After the Norman Conquest Yeadon was held as two manors, Yeadon and Nether Yeadon, and they stayed divided until 1630. The name stayed with the lower part, south of where the A65 and A658 meet.
