Little Ribston: what to know before moving day
The Ribston Pippin apple started here, from a seed Sir Henry Goodricke planted in the 18th century, and a stump of a later tree is kept in Ribston Park. The village's own buildings include St Helen's, a chapel of ease made from a carpenter's shop in 1860 on the bend opposite the Spofforth turning, and a plain Wesleyan chapel dated 1818 that was derelict in 2022. Holly Cottage, in pink gritstone with a pantile roof, is mid-18th century.
The village has grown steadily, from 51 houses in the 1870s to 121 households in 2011, with newer homes on Crimple Avenue and Green Garth. The listed Crimple Bridge carries the road over Crimple Beck at the south end. There is no pub now; the nearest is the Bay Horse in Kirk Deighton.
How the van gets to Little Ribston
The B6164 is the village street, named Knaresborough Road at one end and Wetherby Road at the other, 30 mph through the houses and 60 outside. The lane to Spofforth leaves it opposite St Helen's. From Bradford the route data comes up the A658 through Pool and round the Harrogate southern bypass, then along the B6164.
