Healey (Ossett): what to know before moving day
Healey Mill was built by 1791, Healey Low Mill by 1817 and Healey New Mill by 1827. The New Mill and its chimney are Grade II listed and still used as industrial units, and the 1872 inn, the Millers Arms, was where Ossett Brewery was founded in 1998. The original houses in Healey and along Healey Road were built in the late Victorian period, and Healey Drive, Healey Crescent and Wheatroyd Crescent lead off it.
East of the village is the former Healey Mills marshalling yard. It opened in 1963 as a hump yard for 4,000 wagons a day, the River Calder was moved into a new channel over 1,000 yards long to make room for it, and it closed to marshalling in 1987. Healey Road is the main road in and it also serves the works at Calder Vale Mills and the Kerry Foods site, so give the house number and a note of any parking outside when you book.
How the van gets to Healey (Ossett)
Healey Road runs south-west from the middle of Ossett down to the river, with Low Mill Road off it. From Bradford, the M606 joins the M62 at junction 26; the M62 continues east to the M1, which passes east of Ossett with junction 40 on the A638. From Ossett town centre, Healey Road is the way out to Healey.
