Hampsthwaite: what to know before moving day
The centre is built in gritstone, and the parish has 19 listed buildings, all Grade II. Among the homes on that list are Grove House and Rowden House, dated 1676, Laurel Cottage of 1764, The Old Parsonage, and The Old Mill, a former watermill turned into housing. The old railway station, open from 1866 to 1950, is also a house now. In a listed cottage, measure the front door and the turn of the stairs before booking a large sofa or wardrobe.
Newer housing is on the Brookfield estate, reached from Hollins Lane, and on Finden Gardens and Paddock View. The village has a shop, the Joiners' Arms and a Church of England primary school founded in 1860, and a K6 telephone box stands in High Street. St Thomas a Becket's Church, with its 15th-century tower, stands by the river at the end of Church Lane.
How the van gets to Hampsthwaite
From Harrogate the van follows the A59 Skipton Road west and turns north off it for the village, either by Chain Bar Lane and Hollins Lane or by Rowden Lane, both of which run into High Street. OpenStreetMap records a 7.5-tonne weight limit on High Street and Church Lane, and a 6ft 6in width limit on the Church Lane bridge over the Nidd, so the van comes in from the A59 side, not over the old bridge from Clint.
The drive from Bradford is roughly 40 to 55 minutes. That is an estimate from route data, not a timed run, and traffic changes it.

Can the van use Hampsthwaite Bridge?
It is not planned that way. The bridge of 1640 carries Church Lane over the Nidd on three stone arches, and OpenStreetMap gives it a 6ft 6in width limit. The route in is from the A59, by Hollins Lane or Rowden Lane.
Is Hampsthwaite inside the Nidderdale National Landscape?
Just outside it. The land north and west of the village is recognised as an Area of Great Landscape Value, and the village centre is a conservation area, so alterations to older houses may need consent.
