Kettlesing Bottom: what to know before moving day

The houses are old gritstone farmhouses and cottages spread along a handful of lanes: High Street, Crag Lane, Tang Road, Sleights Lane and White Wall Lane. Cragg Hall, dated 1750, stands right here with its outbuildings, Kettlesing Grange dates from 1731, and West Syke Manor has a timber-framed core from the early 17th century. The war memorial of 1920 stands in an enclosure at a road junction in the village.

Kettlesing Felliscliffe Community Primary School, the Kettlesing Millennium Village Hall, the Felliscliffe chapel of ease and the Queens Head Inn are all close. South of the A59, the eight wind turbines of the Knabs Ridge wind farm stand on the skyline, and the parish takes in part of RAF Menwith Hill further west. How the van gets to Kettlesing Bottom

The A59 climbs west out of Harrogate as Skipton Road and passes Kettlesing on its way towards Blubberhouses. The van turns north off it onto High Street, which becomes the village street, or onto White Wall Lane; Tang Road and Crag Lane link the two. The A59 between Harrogate and Skipton has a long record as a dangerous road, so the turn off it is taken with care.
