Cockersdale: what to know before moving day
The valley explains the place. Tong Beck runs north through Cockers Dale and for much of the way marks the boundary between the Leeds and Bradford districts, and the Leeds Country Way walking route follows it northwards from the A58. Tong village, which is in the Bradford district, stands on a ridge between Pudsey Beck and Cockers Dale, so a move from Tong down to Cockersdale crosses from one council to the other.
Beside Whitehall Road the Valley Inn, a few industrial units and the short streets of Valley Court, New Lane and Dale Road make up the settlement, with Dale Farm and the wood at Thick Thorn Bank behind. Nearer Gildersome Lane, the B6126, are Suffield Road and Suffield Crescent, Greenfield Avenue and Ashwood Drive, where the Moor Head neighbourhood begins.
How the van gets to Cockersdale
Whitehall Road, the A58, is the way in, with bus stops at Dale Road and New Lane. From Bradford, the A650 through Tong Street meets the A58 on the Drighlington bypass, and the A58 then carries on east past the crossroads into the dale. From the Leeds side the same road arrives from New Farnley. Gildersome Lane links the Suffield and Greenfield streets to Scott Green.
The drive from Bradford is roughly 15 to 30 minutes. That is an estimate from route data, not a timed run, and traffic changes it.

Is Cockersdale on the Leeds or the Bradford side of Tong Beck?
The Leeds side. The beck marks the Leeds and Bradford boundary for much of the valley, but the settlement named Cockersdale lies within Leeds, in Drighlington parish and Morley North ward. The postcode is still a Bradford one, BD11, so both names turn up on paperwork.
