Gildersome: what to know before moving day
The B6126 runs through the village as Town Street and Church Street. Gildersome has a library, a health centre, a small Co-op and a village green with a war memorial, and the cricket club is at the top of Street Lane. It is also high up: at 561 feet on Hart Hill, Gildersome is one of the highest parts of the Leeds district.
The houses come from different stages of the village's past. Gildersome was a mining village with many local pits, and the terraces and town houses built for the miners still stand on Street Lane. Mill Lane and the housing along it stand where Maiden Mills was, first a flax mill and rebuilt after a fire in 1914, and much of the old industrial land was cleared for housing in the 1990s. Turton Hall, a Grade II listed building, is now three homes. On one of the older terraces, check how wide the front door and the stairs are before booking a large sofa, and send those figures with a photo.
How the van gets to Gildersome
From Bradford, one way is the M606 down to junction 26 of the M62, then east to junction 27, which is Gildersome's own junction and the start of the M621. The A62, Gelderd Road, also runs past the village. Inside Gildersome the B6126 is the through road: to the north-west it becomes Gildersome Lane and meets the A58 Whitehall Road, and to the south-east it carries on towards Morley.
The drive from Bradford is roughly 20 to 30 minutes. That is an estimate from route data, not a timed run, and traffic changes it.

Its own parish council, since 2004. Gildersome joined the Municipal Borough of Morley in 1937, but it is not governed by Morley Town Council, even though it shares the LS27 postcode district with Morley.
Does Gildersome have a railway station?
No. The village once had two: the station on the Great Northern line, at the crossroads at the top of the village towards Morley, closed in 1962, and the one on Rooms Lane closed to passengers in 1923. A move here is a road job, by the M62 and the B6126.
