Loading out of Kirkgate, then a stop at Junction 27
Kirkgate and the lanes around St Peter's climb steeply on the high ground above the town and are parked tight on both sides, which makes them the worst pinch point here for a long-wheelbase van. The old core is blackened stone cottages and Victorian mill terraces with one door and a narrow staircase. Out at Nova, Fieldhead and Howden Clough the estate housing is far easier, though Howden Clough drops into the valley towards Morley more sharply than a map suggests.
The other half of a student move here is the shopping. Birstall Shopping Park and Junction 27 sit together on Holden Ing Way with big free car parks, so we can collect a bed, a mattress and a set of shelves and load them in with everything coming out of the bedroom. One trip furnishes the house share. If a new mattress is going in, the old one can come out on the same visit.
What Birstall student removals usually involves
- We collect flat-pack beds, desks, mattresses and shelving from Birstall Shopping Park or Junction 27 and deliver them into the room with the rest of the load
- Kirkgate and the streets by St Peter's are steep and parked both sides, so the van stands where it safely can and we carry from there
- Thursday takes the setted market place and the kerb beside the Joseph Priestley statue, so town-centre jobs get booked around it
- Motorway traffic for the retail parks queues on Gelderd Road and Holden Ing Way at weekends, which makes an early slot much faster
- Nova, Fieldhead and Howden Clough load off a drive or a verge, which is the quick half of the work
Where in Birstall we work
- Birstall Shopping Parkwhere the bed, mattress and shelving for a new house share get collected on the way out
- Junction 27 Retail Parkbulky goods and electronics, a sensible first stop before a September run
- Kirkgate and St Peter'ssteep, tightly parked lanes on the high ground, the hardest place in town to stand a long van
- The Victorian market placesetted and given over to the Thursday market, which takes the central kerb space
- Nova and Fieldheadpost-war estate housing where most of the town's students grow up, with room to load
- Howden Cloughdrops away into the valley towards Morley, so the eastern approach is steeper than it looks
If your street isn't listed it's almost certainly still covered, Birstall and the surrounding WF17 postcodes are all inside our normal working area.
Common Birstall runs
- Birstall → Leedsabout six miles, short enough that a house share splitting across the city is still one booking
- Birstall → Bradfordseven miles on the A650 through Drighlington and down Tong Street
- Birstall → Huddersfield or Sheffieldlonger runs booked ahead, with the retail park collection folded into the same trip
What it costs
The price follows the load and the time, and adding a retail park collection on the way out costs far less than booking it as a separate job. There's no travel surcharge for coming to Birstall from Bradford, and you get the price before we set off, not after. See how we quote for the full breakdown.
Frequently asked questions: student removals in Birstall
Is there a college or university in Birstall?
No. Batley Grammar School sits just up at Carlinghow Hill and Windmill CE Primary is in the village, but there is no campus or halls here. Post-16 and degree students travel to Batley, Dewsbury, Huddersfield and Leeds, so most commute and the rest move away in September.
Can you pick up from IKEA and take it to a student house in another city?
Yes, that is a normal job for us. We collect from Birstall Shopping Park or Junction 27, load it in with whatever is coming out of the bedroom at home, and deliver the lot into the room at the other end. Send the order details and the collection instructions when you book.
Can you take the old mattress away when the new one goes in?
Yes. When we deliver a new bed or mattress we can carry the old one out on the same visit and take it away, and old appliances go to a household waste recycling centre. What we do not do is clear whole houses, garages or gardens; that is a different service and not one we offer.
