Three retail parks sit together off Holden Ing Way and Gelderd Road: Birstall Shopping Park with twenty-two stores and six hundred spaces, Junction 27 Retail Park with ten more units of bulky goods and electronics, and Spring Ram next door. We meet you there, load the sofa, the divan or the flat-packed bed frame, and take it in. Weekdays are quicker, because junction 27 queues badly at weekends.

Access here deserves an honest answer rather than a manufactured problem. The post-war estates at Nova, Fieldhead and Howden Clough and the newer semis towards Birkenshaw have wide halls, straight stairs and somewhere to park, and a corner suite goes in whole. Two places are awkward: the setted market place, which loses its kerb space to the Thursday market, and Kirkgate climbing past St Peter's, narrow and parked tight on both sides.
