Flat-pack by the trolley-load, then the turn at the top of the stairs
The region's only IKEA is at Birstall Shopping Park, which has around 600 free spaces, and a flat-packed bedroom fills a surprising amount of van. Three point four metres of load length and 1.7 metres of height takes it in one go, along with a mattress on its side. We are nothing to do with the stores: you buy, we collect against your order and collection instructions, and you need not be there for it.
Getting it home is where this town varies. Nova, Fieldhead and Howden Clough are post-war estates with paths, gates and off-street space, so a wardrobe goes straight in. Kirkgate and the lanes around St Peter's climb the high ground and are parked tight both sides, and the setted Victorian market place loses its kerb space to the Thursday market. Measure the stair turn in the older mill terraces before ordering anything assembled.
What Birstall furniture & large item transport usually involves
- Gelderd Road and Holden Ing Way queue badly at weekends with motorway shoppers, so a weekday morning collection slot saves more time than any route choice
- The retail parks have large free surface parking, which also makes them a sensible waiting point between two drops, though not a place to load a house from
- Kirkgate and the lanes by St Peter's Church are the one real pinch point here, steep and parked both sides, so a centre carry is planned rather than improvised
- The Thursday market takes the kerb space in the setted market place by the Joseph Priestley statue, so a delivery to a flat there gets slotted around it
- The old sofa, table or wardrobe can go out to the van as the new one goes in, or across to a relative in the Heavy Woollen towns - we do not do house clearances or general waste

Common Birstall runs
- Bradford → Birstallseven miles on the A650 Tong Street through Drighlington, or the M606 to the M62 and one junction east, 20 to 30 minutes
- Junction 27 → a Nova or Fieldhead housebought in the morning, carried into the room it is going in that afternoon
- Birstall → Leedsabout six miles for a piece being passed on, or a collection here and a drop in the city
What it costs
A Birstall price is set by the size of the load and the access at the delivery end, and a retail park collection onto an estate driveway is the quickest version of the job. There's no travel surcharge for coming to Birstall from Bradford, and you get the price before we set off, not after. See how we quote for the full breakdown.
Frequently asked questions: furniture & large item transport in Birstall
Can you pick up my IKEA order from Birstall Shopping Park?
Yes, and it is our most frequent job here. We are not connected to the store in any way - you buy it and we collect against your order number and collection instructions. A flat-packed bedroom fits in the van in one load, and we carry it upstairs to the room it is going in rather than leaving it in the hall.
Is same-day realistic from the Junction 27 parks?
Often, yes, if you ring early and the stock is there to collect. The retail parks load quickly and most Birstall addresses are minutes away. The thing to avoid is a weekend slot, because Gelderd Road and Holden Ing Way clog with motorway traffic and the collection alone takes twice as long.
Will you take the old furniture away when you deliver?
Yes, on the same visit if that is what you want. It comes out while the new piece goes in, which helps on a Kirkgate terrace where the street is tight and the front door is the only way through. We can pass it on to someone else instead. We do not clear whole houses, garages or gardens.
