Drighlington: what to know before moving day
The centre is the Drighlington Crossroads, where the A58 Whitehall Road crosses the B6135, which is King Street on one side and Bradford Road on the other and used to be part of the A650. The Spotted Cow, the medical centre and the Co-op are all within a short walk of the lights. The Co-op still trades from the original Drighlington Industrial Co-operative Society building, with the society's name along the roofline, and the library has been run by volunteers since 2012.
Adwalton, now counted as part of Drighlington, is where the Royalist army beat the Parliamentarians under Lord Fairfax on 30 June 1643; four stones with plaques stand around Adwalton Common and a board about the battle hangs on the library wall. St Paul's Church, finished in 1878, is Grade II listed. Housing ranges from the group of streets sharing the Moorside name to closes such as Crocus Drive, Dahlia Grove and Juniper Crescent. How the van gets to Drighlington
From Bradford, the A650 runs out through Tong Street and now skirts the west side of Drighlington on a bypass laid partly along the old Great Northern railway, so the van leaves it for the A58 or the B6135 into the village. The A58 also comes in from Birkenshaw, and its straight run to the Drighlington traffic lights follows the Roman road from York to Chester. Station Road, the B6125, branches off Whitehall Road close to the crossroads.
