Moving in Upper Heaton: what to know first
Upper Heaton is a cluster of houses, cottages and farm buildings around the fork where New Road leaves the B6118, with the houses of Meadow Park just off New Road. Many of the older homes go by a name, such as Roundhill Cottage, Wayside Cottage or April Cottage, so put the name as well as the postcode on the booking. On Meadow Park the van can usually stop outside; for a cottage facing the main road, say whether there is a yard or drive it can pull into.
Bog Green Lane and Upper Heaton Lane carry the B6118 past the fork at 30 and 40 mph, so the van does not stand on them for long. The road climbs a long way up from Colne Bridge to reach the hamlet, which matters on an icy morning. Round Hill Lane starts as a surfaced lane but turns into a bridleway across to Dalton Bank Road, so a house at its far end may need a short carry from where the van stops.
Upper Heaton: the local picture
Three roads meet here. The B6118 arrives from Colne Bridge as Bog Green Lane and carries on south as Upper Heaton Lane towards Kirkheaton, while New Road heads off towards Meadow Park and Sunny Hill Avenue. Most of the hamlet's addresses are on Meadow Park, Round Hill Lane, Bog Green Lane and New Road.
North-west of the junction, the barn at New House Farm is a listed 17th-century stone barn with a cart entry and a small aisle at the back, and Dalton Bank nature reserve lies to the south-west. There is a bus stop at the New Road junction, handy for friends or family coming to help on the day.
How the van gets to Upper Heaton
The usual road route from Bradford leaves the A62 Leeds Road at Bradley for Colne Bridge Road (B6118), then follows Bog Green Lane for about 1.4 kilometres to the fork, roughly 20 to 35 minutes as an estimate. From the south, Moor Top Road and Upper Heaton Lane bring the B6118 in from the Kirkheaton side.
The drive from Bradford is roughly 20 to 35 minutes. That is an estimate, not a timed run, and traffic changes it.

Frequently asked questions: man with a van in Upper Heaton
Why does my Upper Heaton postcode list Spen Valley as the constituency?
Because the boundaries differ. postcodes.io puts HD5 0PN in the Dalton ward of Kirklees and Kirkburton parish, but in the Spen Valley parliamentary constituency. None of that changes the move: Kirklees Council handles bins and council tax, and the full postcode guides the van.
Is the climb from Colne Bridge a problem for a loaded van?
Not in normal weather. Bog Green Lane is a surfaced B road, but it climbs a long way from the river to the hamlet, so in snow or ice we check conditions the evening before and agree a back-up time if needed.
Can the van reach a house at the far end of Round Hill Lane?
Not always. Round Hill Lane is a surfaced residential lane at the Upper Heaton end and becomes a bridleway on its way to Dalton Bank Road, so tell us how far along it you live and the van will stop where the surface allows.
