Deighton: what to know before moving day
Deighton was once called East Bradley and took its present name from the Deighton family, who bought the land from Screamer Woods to Sheepridge and Brackenhall. Homes are on streets such as Whitacre Street, Deighton Road, Riddings Road and Ochrewell Avenue, with the Riddings neighbourhood towards Sheepridge. The Deighton Sports Arena, the Leeds Road Playing Fields with their athletics track, and the carnival held each late June since 2002 are the local landmarks.
Along Leeds Road the district is industrial as well as residential: the Syngenta chemical plant, Whitacre Industrial Park and Ainley Industrial Estate are here, and the Huddersfield Broad Canal and the River Colne run through the valley. Leeds Road Bridge over the canal and Hall Wood Lock both date from 1774 to 1780 and are listed. If the job starts or ends at a business unit, give the unit number and which gate to use.
How the van gets to Deighton
Deighton is reached from the A62 Leeds Road, the main road out of Huddersfield towards Heckmondwike and Leeds. Whitacre Street and Deighton Road leave Leeds Road for the houses, and Deighton Road carries on west to Sheepridge. Leeds Road also meets the A6107 and the B6118 at Bradley, just to the north.

Deighton: questions before you book
Is Deighton station open?
Not at present. The station closed in late August 2025 to be rebuilt for the TransPennine Route Upgrade, with new platforms slightly further west, and a replacement bus runs until the work is done, planned for 2027. A move is a road job anyway, by Leeds Road.
