Brackenhall: what to know before moving day
The estate was created in the 1930s, when Huddersfield's council moved residents out of run-down homes in the town centre. In 1997 the council bought and closed the estate pub and demolished some of the 1,050 homes, a fifth of which stood empty at the time, then worked with Southdale Homes on new housing. Streets on the estate today include Bracken Hall Road, Central Avenue, Bradley Boulevard and Crest Hill Road, alongside closes such as Aquamarine Drive, Topaz Close and Peridot Fold.
Ashbrow School, Northfield Hall community centre and an Asda with a pharmacy and a fuel station are nearby, and Ashbrow Woods and Dick Wood are close to the houses. Two listed older buildings stand near the estate: Rosery Cottage, an early 19th-century stone cottage, and 182 Netheroyd Hill Road. If your house is on a close with a shared drive, tell us where the van can pull in without blocking it.
How the van gets to Brackenhall
Coming from Bradford, the van stays on the A641 almost to the door: Netheroyd Hill Road and Ashbrow Road both leave Bradford Road for Brackenhall, and Bracken Hall Road joins Sheepridge Road on the Sheepridge side. Cowcliffe Hill Road meets Netheroyd Hill Road for anyone coming across from Birkby.

Where does Brackenhall end and Sheepridge begin?
They are neighbours and share the Ashbrow ward, but Brackenhall is the estate on the Fixby side and Sheepridge the area around Woodhouse Hill and Christ Church. Give the street name when you book, because roads such as Woodhouse Hall Road run between the two.
