Fartown: what to know before moving day
The name is best known from rugby league. Huddersfield's club played at the Fartown Ground on Spaines Road from 1878 until 1992, and its supporters still call the club Fartown; Yorkshire played county cricket on the same ground. Two hills shape the streets: Woodhouse Hill towards Sheepridge, with North Huddersfield Trust School just off it, and York Avenue towards Cowcliffe.
The houses are a mix of old and new. A terrace of early 19th-century stone houses at 111 to 117 Wasp Nest Road is listed, as are the stone houses at 56 to 64 Crescent Road, one dated 1789, and old shops at 121 to 125 Halifax Old Road. Birkby and Fartown Library, the community centre, several mosques and a Sikh temple are among the landmarks. If your address is on one of the streets climbing Woodhouse Hill, mention it when you book.
How the van gets to Fartown
The A641 runs straight through Fartown as Bradford Road, so a van coming from the Bradford side reaches it without entering the town centre at all. Spaines Road, Halifax Old Road and Hillhouse Lane all leave Bradford Road, and Fartown Green Road leads up from it to Woodhouse Hill.
The drive from Bradford is roughly 25 to 40 minutes. That is an estimate from route data, not a timed run, and traffic changes it.

Is the old Fartown rugby ground still used?
Only a little. Huddersfield's rugby league club left the Fartown Ground on Spaines Road in 1992, and the ground now sees little sport. Spaines Road leaves Bradford Road, so it is an easy reference point when you describe your street.
