Riddlesden: what to know before moving day
The canal shapes the place. Its Bingley to Skipton section opened in 1773, and Riddlesden had several wharves for shipping coal from local pits, which were worked from about 1700 into the early 1920s. Granby Lane crosses the canal at Banks Bridge beside the Marquis of Granby pub, and Stockbridge Wharf is close by. If your road is reached over a canal bridge, say so when you ask for a price.
Off Banks Lane and Scott Lane are the residential streets: the Southlands, Southfield and Westfield roads, Barley Cote Avenue, Hospital Road, Carr Lane and St Mary's Road, near St Mary the Virgin church, the United Reformed church on Scott Lane and St Mary's Church of England Primary School. Low Banks, a stone house of 1700 with an initialled datestone over its doorway, is Grade II listed.
East Riddlesden Hall was built in 1642 by the Halifax clothier James Murgatroyd and is Grade I listed and owned by the National Trust, with a Grade I aisled barn in its grounds. There were proposals in 2010 and 2012 for a separate Riddlesden parish, but the village is still in the civil parish of Keighley and the Keighley East ward.
How the van gets to Riddlesden
Bradford Road, the B6265, is the valley road between Keighley and Bingley, and it meets Granby Lane in Riddlesden. Granby Lane then crosses the canal to Banks Lane and Hospital Road, and Ilkley Road runs from Banks Lane up to West Morton. The towpath is National Cycle Route 69, fine on foot but not a way in for the van, so give the road side of the address.

The parish proposals of 2010 and 2012 grouped Riddlesden with nearby Stockbridge and Sandbeds, and Stockbridge Wharf is on the canal close to Granby Lane. The map treats Stockbridge as a separate neighbourhood, so name whichever is on your address.
