Low bridges, ginnels and the climb out of the Worth Valley

A high van cannot take every route into this town. The canal and railway bridges around Ingrow and Riddlesden, on the Worth Valley line and the Leeds and Liverpool, need checking before anything is committed to, and the Airedale Shopping Centre deck is barriered anyway so it is no use to us. We work the height out first and route round it, which is a lot less painful than finding out at the bridge with a full load behind you.

Then there are the streets. Rows at Highfield, Guardhouse, Ingrow and Fell Lane were built for mill workers walking home, so there is no driveway, the only rear access is a ginnel, and cars line both kerbs. Realistically we hold the lane for a short spell with one of us watching the road while the other loads, and we work fast rather than blocking a street all afternoon.
