Weavers' cottages, canal bridges and the estates on the edge
A weavers' cottage was built for looms and people, not for a modern three-seater. The frontage is narrow, there are steps up from the pavement to the door, and there is no rear access at all, so the sofa, the divan and the washing machine all come out of one opening onto a street the van cannot sit on for long. Send a photo of the door and the staircase and we'll tell you what has to come apart.
The other local constant is the canal. The Leeds and Liverpool runs straight through town and the road bridges over it are pinch points, so a cross-town move gets routed rather than just driven. Up at Brunthwaite the lanes climbing towards Rombalds Moor are single track with passing places and no turning space for a long van. The new estates off Howden Road and Hawber Lane are the opposite: wide roads, driveways, fast loading.
What Silsden house removals usually involves
- The two Bradford Council pay-and-display car parks, Bridge Street and Wesley Place, are small, a couple of dozen spaces each, so they serve as a staging point rather than a loading bay
- Kirkgate is narrow and parked both sides, and Briggate and Elliott Street are tighter still, so we take the closest legal kerb and carry
- Brunthwaite and High Brunthwaite are single-track with no turning space for a 3.4m load, so we agree the approach and the reversing point before setting off
- New-build estate houses off Howden Road and Hawber Lane load straight off a driveway and usually go in one or two trips
- If the move finishes with a new sofa or bed being delivered, we can take the old one away on the same visit; we don't clear whole houses, garages or gardens
Where in Silsden we work
- Kirkgate and Briggatethe old core, narrow frontages, steps up from the pavement and no rear access
- Elliott Streetweavers' cottages where one awkward piece of furniture can decide the length of the job
- Howden Road and Hawber Lanenew estate housing with drives, the quickest van work in Silsden
- Brunthwaitesingle-track lanes towards Rombalds Moor, passing places only and nowhere to turn a long van
- Bolton Roadstone semis and bungalows spreading up out of the centre, generally kerb-side loading
- Steeton and Silsden stationa mile south of town, and the reason so many local movers are Leeds and Bradford commuters
If your street isn't listed it's almost certainly still covered, Silsden and the surrounding BD20 postcodes are all inside our normal working area.
Common Silsden runs
- Bradford → Silsdenfourteen miles on the A650 through Shipley, Bingley and Keighley, then the A629 and A6034
- Silsden cottage → Howden Road new-buildthe common local step up, tight at one end and easy at the other
- Silsden → Keighley or Skiptonshort Aire Valley runs, usually a single load
What it costs
In Silsden the price follows the property type more than the postcode, because a canal-side cottage with no rear access takes longer than a new-build with a driveway. There's no travel surcharge for coming to Silsden from Bradford, and you get the price before we set off, not after. See how we quote for the full breakdown.
Frequently asked questions: house removals in Silsden
Can you load from Kirkgate?
We can work from it, but not park on it comfortably. Kirkgate is narrow and parked on both sides, so for a cottage there we take the nearest legal position, bring the heavy furniture out first while the van is close, and use the Bridge Street or Wesley Place car park if we have to wait between loads.
Will you take a van up to Brunthwaite?
Yes, with the route agreed first. The lanes up there are single track with passing places and no turning space for a long wheelbase van, so we work out where we can turn around before the job rather than discovering the answer with your furniture on board.
Does a two-bed cottage fit in one load?
Normally yes. The load space is 3.4 metres long and 1.7 high, which takes a two-bed's worth of furniture and boxes comfortably. What adds a second trip here is usually a garden full of pots or a cellar, not the furniture itself, so mention those when you book.
