Kirkgate, Briggate and Elliott Street are the old town: gritstone weavers' cottages and through-terraces with narrow frontages, steps up from the pavement and no rear access whatsoever. Kirkgate is also the main shopping street, parked both sides and tight for a long wheelbase van. If the seller is on one of those streets, the width of their doorway matters more than the size of the item, and a photo of the door beats any description.

Out on the Howden Road and Hawber Lane side it is a different town. Estate building has added a lot of new housing, including the 72 homes approved at Drabble House Farm, and that is where most of what we deliver ends up: young families filling rooms from Marketplace rather than paying retail. Those addresses have drives and turning space, so the delivery half of the job is usually the quick half.
