Marketplace Collection in Skipton

Skipton listings are worth the drive. A market town full of retirees downsizing out of big houses and Dales cottages produces better furniture than most of the valley, and almost all of it is collection only. We come up the A650 and A629 from Bradford, load it carefully and bring it to your door.

High Street flats, back yards and four market days a week

The wide High Street carries a general market on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, and closes to traffic entirely for the Christmas market and the car show. That matters because so much of the central housing is flats over shops, reached not from the street at all but from rear yards and narrow ginnels, up steep back staircases with no lift. A sofa coming out of one of those is a planned operation, not a quick stop.

Elsewhere it's easier but not automatic. The terraces off Broughton Road and Water Street are narrow with cars both sides and no off-street loading, while the canal crossings around Coach Street and the basin are humpback bridges with tight approach turns for a long van. Out on Gargrave Road and at Aireville there are drives and space, which is usually where the bigger, better listings are anyway.

What Skipton marketplace & ebay collection usually involves

  • A650 up the Aire valley through Shipley, Bingley and Keighley, then the A629 and the A65 bypass: twenty miles, thirty-five to fifty minutes, and still no travel surcharge
  • Market days are Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, so High Street bays are gone and central collections get done early or booked round the stalls
  • Flats above the High Street and Sheep Street shops are reached from rear yards and ginnels with steep back staircases, so measure the stair, not just the doorway
  • Coach Street and the canal basin crossings are narrow humpbacks, which shapes the approach for a long wheelbase van
  • Gargrave Road, Aireville and the newer estates have drives, so those collections are quick and we can usually turn one round the same day

Where in Skipton we work

  • High Street and Sheep Streetflats over shops with rear-yard access and steep back stairs, the hardest collections in town
  • Broughton Road and Water Streetnarrow Victorian terraces parked both sides, no off-street loading at all
  • Gargrave Road and Aireville1930s to 1970s semis and detached houses with drives, where the better listings tend to be
  • Greatwood and Horse Closelarge post-war and housing-association estates with room to park and load
  • The canal basinapartment conversions with humpback bridge approaches to think about
  • Snaygill Industrial Estate, Keighley Roadtrade and unit sellers on the Keighley side, easy in and out for the run home

If your street isn't listed it's almost certainly still covered, Skipton and the surrounding BD23 postcodes are all inside our normal working area.

Common Skipton runs

  • Skipton → BradfordA629 to the A650 down the Aire valley, twenty miles and thirty-five to fifty minutes
  • Skipton → Keighley or Bingleythe short valley hop when the buyer is further down the Airedale line
  • Embsay or Carleton → Skipton townvillage collection and a town delivery, or the other way round

What it costs

A Skipton collection is priced on the full run between the seller and you plus the time the carry takes, so the stairs matter more than the mileage. There's no travel surcharge for coming to Skipton from Bradford, and you get the price before we set off, not after. See how we quote for the full breakdown.

Frequently asked questions: marketplace & ebay collection in Skipton

Is Skipton too far for you to collect from?

No. Twenty miles up the Aire valley is a normal run for us and there's no travel surcharge for it. What matters is the total distance from the seller to you, so a Skipton seller delivering to Keighley costs less than the same item going to Wakefield.

The seller's flat is above a shop on the High Street. Can you get a sofa down?

Often, but the back staircase decides it, not the front door. Those flats are reached from rear yards and the stairs are steep and turn tightly. Ask the seller for a photo looking down the staircase and the width at the turn, and we'll tell you before you pay.

Can you work around the market?

Yes. With four market days a week we have to. For a central address we'll either come early before the stalls are set up, or after they're cleared, and load from the nearest legal stop. Outside the centre, market days make no difference at all.
