East Morton: what to know before moving day
The old centre keeps its 17th-century stone houses. 3 to 6 The Square was a single house, now divided into four; Laurel Bank is dated 1669; 2 to 5 Croft Road are 18th-century cottages; and Green End Farmhouse, with its barn and cottage, is dated 1664. The Congregational church and Sunday school of 1845 and St Luke's, consecrated in 1851, are both still here, along with the Busfeild Arms, named after the local Busfeild family, and the Church of England primary school.
The village has grown a good deal recently. New estates include Waterside Fold, next to the Leeds and Liverpool Canal at the southern end, and most streets, from Main Road to closes such as Cupstone Close, Buckstone Garth and Whitestone Drive, are signed at 20 mph. How the van gets to East Morton
From Crossflatts, Morton Lane leaves Keighley Road and crosses the Leeds and Liverpool Canal on Morton Swing Bridge, canal bridge 198A, before running up into the village to meet Main Road and Otley Road. A swing bridge opens for boats, so a short wait there is possible. The A650 relief road in the valley gives the connection to the rest of Airedale.
