Crossflatts: what to know before moving day
Keighley Road, the old main road, is the high street: the Royal Hotel, Ryshworth Social Club, a butcher, a chemist, a post office, a funeral parlour, a music shop and St Aidan's Church are all on or near it, and part of it has a 20 mph limit. Crossflatts station opened on a brand-new site in 1982, with ramps from the main road to both platforms and trains to Leeds, Bradford Forster Square and Skipton. Several of the old mills are now flats. Airedale Mills, Limefield Mills and Old Souls Mill are apartment buildings now, as is St Aidan's Square, and Castlefields Industrial Estate is close by. Among the older houses, Ryshworth Hall began as a timber-framed hall in the early 16th century and was later cased in stone, and Laythorpe Farmhouse is dated 1737. For a mill flat, the lift size, the entrance used for moves and any booking rules are the things to check with the building first.
How the van gets to Crossflatts
The A650 Sir Fred Hoyle Way runs along the valley past Crossflatts, with a roundabout here. The old road, Keighley Road, runs through from Bingley towards Keighley, with Micklethwaite Lane leaving it to cross the canal for Micklethwaite, and Morton Lane heading north for East Morton. Castlefields Road serves the industrial estate.
The drive from Bradford is roughly 20 to 30 minutes. That is an estimate from route data, not a timed run, and traffic changes it.

Is Crossflatts a separate village from Bingley?
It adjoins Bingley at the Five Rise Locks and is in Bingley parish and the Bingley East ward. When a Bingley town council was proposed in 2000, the railway bridge in Crossflatts was a ward boundary; Bingley Town Council, created in 2016, now covers the area.
Which road are the shops on now the bypass is open?
Keighley Road, the old A650, which is now a B road. Traffic fell by about half when the Aire Valley road opened in 2004, so the old road through Crossflatts is quieter than its history suggests.
