Lightenfield Lane, Delph Lane, Chapel Street and Netherton Moor Road are among the side streets; Coppice Drive, Marten Drive, Juniper Grove and Spruce Drive lead into cul-de-sacs and mews courts, where turning a long van is worth planning.
A railway once ran through here. The Meltham branch left the Penistone Line at Lockwood and ran by Armitage Bridge and Netherton to Meltham; it lost its passenger trains in 1949 and closed to freight in 1965, and OpenStreetMap still maps the old line through the village. Netherton and South Crosland together had 3,702 residents at the 2001 census. South Crosland was a separate urban district until 1938, when it was divided between Huddersfield, Meltham and Holmfirth.
How the van gets to Netherton (Netherton & Newsome)
The B6108 is the road in. It leaves the A616 at Lockwood, passing under the Lockwood Viaduct, and runs south-west through Netherton as Meltham Road towards Meltham. From Bradford the van reaches Huddersfield by the M606 and the M62, then crosses the ring road to the A616 at Chapel Hill before turning off for Meltham Road at Lockwood.

The other is a small spot on Manor Road and Moor Lane east of Farnley Tyas, in Kirkburton parish. Give the full postcode when you book so the right one is quoted.
Could I have taken a train from Netherton once?
Yes, until 1949, when the Meltham branch through the village lost its passenger trains. Its trains ran from Lockwood, which is still a stop on the Penistone Line between Huddersfield and Sheffield.
