Lockwood: what to know before moving day
The viaduct was finished in 1848 and is Grade II listed: 32 stone arches, up to about 37 metres high, spanning the River Holme, the B6108 and the A616. Lockwood station is on Swan Lane, just before it, with a single platform. Under the arches, on the site of the old Bentley and Shaws brewery, is Lockwood Park, the home of Huddersfield Rugby Union Club, and Brewery Drive runs beside it. Dixon's Milk Ices are made in the former Lockwood Town Hall.
Many homes are on the streets off Meltham Road and Swan Lane: Hanson Lane, Bentley Street, Haigh Street, Helen Street, Milner Street and Devonshire Street among them, with Victoria Road and North Street towards the station. The Shoulder of Mutton and The Swan are pubs nearby, and Salford, with its village green, is the neighbourhood next door. Lockwood was once called North Crosland, a name still used for parts of it.
How the van gets to Lockwood
Two main roads meet here. The A616 runs through as Lockwood Road, Albert Street, Bridge Street and Woodhead Road on its way to Berry Brow, and the B6108 Meltham Road branches off it for Netherton and Meltham. Swan Lane links the station side. From Bradford the van reaches the ring road by the M62 and picks up the A616 at Chapel Hill.
