Newsome: what to know before moving day
The village centre is where Newsome Road meets Naomi Road and Church Lane. The post office, the village store, the surgery and health centre, a pharmacy and The Newsome Centre are all within about 150 metres, with The Fountain and the Clarence pubs close by. Towngate, Hart Street, Ruth Street, Ing Lane and Jackroyd Lane lead off into the houses, and Garsdale Road, Ingleton Road and Aysgarth Road are close by as well.
Newsome mixes homes with industry. Business units now occupy most of the old Newsome Mill site, a former woollen mill, and OpenStreetMap still names the Newsome Mills buildings off Newsome Road. Hillside Primary School replaced the Victorian Stile Common Infant and Nursery School, Newsome Academy is the secondary school to the south-west, and Castle Hill School, a special school for ages 3 to 19, is on the Berry Brow side.
How the van gets to Newsome
Newsome Road runs into the centre, and Newsome Road South carries on towards Berry Brow. From Lockwood, Lockwood Scar leaves Woodhead Road (A616) for the village. Coming from Bradford, the van reaches the town on the M62 before taking one of these roads.
