Storthes Hall is a heavily wooded part of Kirkburton parish with a single road through it. The hospital that opened in 1904 closed in the early 1990s, its land went to the University of Huddersfield, and the student village built there closed in July 2024. Plans for 261 houses on the site were at an early stage with no approval given. Storthes Hall Mansion, built for the Horsfall family around 1788, is a Grade II listed private house.

Storthes Hall Lane is the only road through Storthes Hall, linking Kirkburton with Farnley Tyas and Thurstonland. At the Kirkburton end it comes out near the A629 Penistone Road; from the Farnley Tyas end it meets Farnley Road, where there is a bus stop. Woodside Lodge turns off the lane close to the hamlet.
