Farnley Tyas: what to know before moving day
The village centre is a short street called The Village, where Farnley Road, Woodsome Road, Honley Road and Butts Road come together. The Golden Cock Inn and St Lucius' Church are both within a couple of hundred metres of that junction, with the first school, the bowling club and a small sports field close by. Most houses are private, with some social housing; other homes sit along Manor Road, Keepers Way, Deer Croft and St Lucius's Close, and off Butts Road on Butts Way and Butts Close.
The place is old: Domesday lists it in 1086 as Fereleia, and the Tyas part comes from the le Tyeis family who held land here from the 13th century. It was once an urban district of its own, merged with Thurstonland in 1925 and folded mostly into Kirkburton in 1938. Around it are woods such as Farnley Bank Wood and School Wood, and the Range Dike stream runs nearby.
How the van gets to Farnley Tyas
Farnley Road runs east out of the village and meets Storthes Hall Lane, which runs through the woods to the Kirkburton side and the A629 Penistone Road. Honley Road leads the other way, towards Honley. From Bradford the van comes down to Huddersfield on the M62, then out on the A629 before turning up to the hilltop.
The drive from Bradford is roughly 30 to 45 minutes. That is an estimate from route data, not a timed run, and traffic changes it.
