Stocksmoor: what to know before moving day
The hamlet gathers round a crossroads of Cross Lane, Fulstone Road, Station Road and Shepley Road, with the station, the village hall and the Clothiers Arms a short walk away. The listed terrace at 15, 19 and 21 Cross Lane, built in millstone grit in the early to mid 19th century, began as four houses and is now three. Newer homes are on Crangle Fields, Derwin Avenue and Stocksmead Court, and Whitestones is a small group of houses off Stocks Moor Road. In 1838 a labourer digging in a field on Stocks Moor found more than 1,000 Roman coins.
Stocksmoor is also where Ben Swift Chambers was born, the minister whose church football team in Liverpool became Everton. For a move, what matters more is where your door is: if it is out on Stocks Lane, Stone Wood Lane or Birks Lane rather than near the crossroads, say where a long van could pull in.
How the van gets to Stocksmoor
Stocks Moor Road and Birks Lane are the main local roads. Shepley Road runs across to Shepley and the A629, which is the way in from Huddersfield and so from Bradford. Fulstone Road leads off towards Fulstone.
