Shepley: what to know before moving day
The centre is Station Road and Marsh Lane, where the Black Bull, the Co-op, the library and the first school are within a short walk of each other. The library is run by the Shepley Hub, a community company set up to stop it closing. Shepley Hall, a stone house of 1608 since altered and divided, stands on Station Road with The Granary and Croft Head Farm close by, and the Victorian first school of 1896 is listed too.
In the 19th century four mills and about 30 tailors' shops worked in the village, and listed weavers' houses such as 10 and 11 Cliffe Side still stand among the later streets. The Senior brewing family built Cliffe House in 1888 to 1889, and St Paul's church dates from 1847 to 1848. Newer homes run along Jos Lane, Lea Drive, Field Way, Stocks Way, Fox Royd and Knowle Park Avenue. The part of the village along the A629 to the north is known as the Abbey, which is where Abbey Road North, Abbey Road South and Abbey Farm Drive get their names, though no abbey was ever built there.
How the van gets to Shepley
The A629 is the main road: it runs through Shepley between Huddersfield and Penistone, as Abbey Road on the north side and Lane Head Road to the south, where it meets the A635 at Shepley Lane Head. From Bradford the van comes by way of Huddersfield and straight down the A629.

How does Shepley station work if I am travelling separately from the van?
Trains run hourly in each direction to Huddersfield and to Sheffield by way of Barnsley. The two platforms are staggered on opposite sides of a road bridge, and only the Huddersfield-bound platform has step-free access. The station also serves Shelley.
