Moving in Jagger Green: what to know first
Jagger Green is a handful of stone farmhouses, cottages and barns gathered where Jagger Green Lane meets New Road, so a move here is a country-lane job rather than a street one. The van stops on the lane beside the house or pulls into a yard where there is room. Tell us whether your house has its own yard or gateway, and send a photo of it, so the stopping place is agreed in advance.
Jagger Green Dean, the lane beside the hamlet, turns from compacted gravel to an unpaved track, so a house reached only from it needs checking before booking, more so after rain. Jagger Green Lane runs east into the 20 mph streets of Holywell Green, the way the van comes from Elland, while New Road heads west to Old Lindley Road for Huddersfield.
Jagger Green: the local picture
For its size the hamlet has an unusual number of listed buildings, all Grade II. Jagger Green Hall is late 17th century, extended in the 18th, with mullioned and transomed windows of up to 14 lights and a dated plaque on its porch. Inglenook, with a barn behind it, is of a similar age; Carr Farmhouse and Holly Tree Farmhouse, a laithe house that began as two cottages and a barn, are 18th century; Moorview and Sandymoor is an early 19th-century cottage now split in two. Even the K6 telephone kiosk of 1935 is listed.
In houses of this age, measure doorways and the turn of the stairs for wardrobes and sofas before moving day. Thunnerley Wood and Bank Wood lie round the hamlet, and the local historian J. A. Heginbottom places the true St Helen's Well, a spring feeding a Victorian stone cistern, near Helen Hill Farm on Jagger Green Lane rather than at the trough in Holywell Green.
How the van gets to Jagger Green
Most of the run is motorway: the M606 and M62 as far as the A629, then along the A643 Lindley Moor Road and Old Lindley Road to New Road, for roughly 25 to 40 minutes in all. Jagger Green Dean, beside the hamlet, has a compacted, unsealed surface rather than tarmac, so name the lane your house is on.
The drive from Bradford is roughly 25 to 40 minutes. That is an estimate, not a timed run, and traffic changes it.

Frequently asked questions: man with a van in Jagger Green
Our house is listed. Does that change anything for the move?
Not the booking itself, but tell the driver. If the doors or stairs are tight, bed frames and flat-pack wardrobes can be taken apart and rebuilt, which is included, and anything solid that might not fit through should be measured before the day.
Can a long van use Jagger Green Dean?
Treat it with care. It has a compacted surface near the hamlet and becomes an unpaved track further on, so if your only access is from the Dean, send photos and we will say whether the van can reach the door or should stop on Jagger Green Lane.
Does the van come in through Holywell Green or Old Lindley?
It depends on where it starts. From Elland and from the M62 it usually comes up through Holywell Green on Jagger Green Lane; from Huddersfield it takes the A643 to Old Lindley Road and New Road. Either way, give the house name as well as the postcode.
